Our Peonies haven't bloomed yet (Colorado), but this insect is checking out the buds.

I hope it's not a bug that eats Peonies. This is a pretty shot, Don, and I'm looking forward to seeing the bloom when it opens.

Don that is an ant and they patrol the buds of peonies for the nectar that they secrete. It was thought that they needed ants to bloom but that is not true. They will not eat the flower but may eat insects that might be harmful to the peony. If you are afraid of bringing ants into the house, cut, turn upside down and shake. The ants will fall out of the flower. Very cool closeup of the ant and bud.
