I was wondering if anyone on this group had tried out the Lytro, or any other light field cameras, and what their impressions were. I was looking through the B&H "Book of Dreams" and noticed that there was a version by Lytro that was relatively inexpensive. This got the curiosity up.

Do a "search" and see what comes up......the Lytro is an interesting concept, especially since large memory storage is now compact and fairly cheap.

My research reveals it is a very low pixel count camera that is nothing more than a novelty. Theoretically, it gives you the ability to focus after the photo is taken. If it was really good the price would be higher. Just my opinion.

I got one from "Woot" a few months ago, but haven't really played around with it very much. You have to process the files in their software, but you can then export jpegs. One of these days I am going to play around, because you really can take one picture, and then export multiple jpegs with different focus points. It would probably be a fun item at a party...

This is the one that looks like a square tube, not the one that looks like a P&S camera. The square ones are available on Woot every few months for around $75.

It certainly isn't ever going to replace any other camera you own, but at that price, who can't use another toy?
