I am trying to explain to my wife.....

......that if I get this scope that I will NEVER EVER want another thing for my birthday, Christmas, or any other holiday :)

http://www.meade.com/products/coronado/solarmax-ii-60mm-double-stack-solar-telescope-with-richview-system-and-10mm-blocking-filter.html

Having the double stack etalon can render images like the ones on this link

I wonder if throwing a tantrum would work :) I can justify my cameras and photo stuff as I make my living in photography - but shooting the sun is going to be a hard sell.

WHAT???
Listen, You make your living in Photography.
Photography is light, how it is transmitted, how it reacts to different substances and causes them to give off all forms and levels of colors and shades.
A Telescope is a basic light meter to help you further your understanding. Without it is like trying to take pictures in a mine.
Totally shooting in the dark.

I could expound for much longer, but we'd miss church.

It's a new light meter to further your craft.
A "MUST Have." ;)

Given I have several Sekonics - I probably need to come up with another story .....but I am working on it. I was thinking about telling my son to buy and send me one for just being a great dad :).....then telling my wife - I hate he spent that kind of money....send him a check and ...well I guess I can use the scope for something :) How does that sound!! ?? Sorta like laundering money I think

First, set up tent, cot, sleeping bag etc in back yard. You may need them for a while.

Second, if you think the average wife is gullible enough to believe that story then you should ask the doc to refer you for a cognitive function evaluation.

Third, just stash spare change away, sell a few other things you don't really use all that much. Ask for money for your telescope fund in place of all gifts on all occasions. Keep working hard to earn points in your "happy wife" account and maybe she will take pity on you and let you get your new toy, but don't hold your breath waiting, turning blue is usually not a good thing unless it is makeup for Halloween.

Methinks you have had to pull this off before. Funny.....I always thought that was what the trunk of the car was for....to hide the loot. But then I found out that my wife was storing her "cost more than my gear" shoes there. :):) I am having a lot of fun at her expense, actually she could care less as long as her supply of the money doesn't run dry.

The reality is....i am having a hard time justifying it but whoa! It is a piece of kit. I have been using a solar filter and could easily make due. Decisions... decisions!

I bought a Browning High Power 9mm simi-auto back in the mid 1980's.
I wasn't sure how to break the news to the wife.
My Dad said, "Gimme that thing."
So I handed it to him.
He handed it back and said, "Here, I'm giving you this. Now you can tell her I gave it to ya."
That worked. ;)

I'm not the one to give advice, but I have a suggestion. Your wife is your PARTNER, not (I assume) your boss. I know what happens when one "assumes", but no matter. I suggest that there is a long overdue conversation for you and your wife to consider. If you are not on a very tight budget, both of your wants do not need to be an obstacle. I hope the two of you can reach a newway of negotiating for both of your toys (she prolly wouldnt call hers toys) but life is too short to have to try to manipulate someone with whom you have the closest relationship in this lifetime. The idea is that you both should be supportive of all but the most outrageous wishes of your partner, and both people get to enjoy their desires. It tends to bring partners (wives/husbands) closer and can make life sooo much happier (IMHO).
