Big Brutis, huge coal mining shovel.

This is the second largest electric shovel in the world and is located near West Mineral, Kansas.
It weighs 5,500 tons, stands 16 stories (160 ft.) tall.
It was used in coal mining in the S.E. corner of Kansas.
Look closely, you can see my wife standing at the base near a normal size steam shovel.

That thing is huge! I work in a coal fire power plant...it might have sent some coal my way...

That is huge! Last time I saw equipment like that was at the copper mine at Bagdad, AZ. Pretty impressive equipment

Talk about HUGE! Wow! A person standing next to it would almost be like an ant from up above. Great shot.

Yes I did climb the boom. The boom is 150 feet long and 160 above the ground at th top.
Unfortunately I only took my video camera when I climbed it so I don't have any pictures from the top.

In deed it is. It took 150 railroad cars to deliver the pieces to S.E. Kansas and 52 P&M employees 11 months assemble it.
Big Brutis did not dig coal. It was used to remove the dirt and rocks covering the coal seam.
The bucket can hold 90 cubic yards, about 150 tons of dirt in one load!
