I am more than happy with my new lens. The first two bird photos are at 600mm and could not get much sharper. See the "original". I just thought that maybe if someone was hesitating like I was a couple of weeks ago about buying this lens, go for it! I'm sure glad I did. Also, this was on a Nikon d7000.

Those are some nice photo's! I've seen a lot of them with that lens. I've got an older 170-500 Sigma I don't use much but gonna have to try it again one of these days.

These are superb. I have had mine for a couple of months and I am not getting images this good yet. It is likely the nut behind my camera though.

I'm beginning to recognize your lighting style Pixelpixie. It's one that I stand in awe of, and these bird photos are no different. I suspect you get better results out of this lens than do many others but I'm glad you've encouraged the rest of us to make the plunge.

Excellent shots. I am also happy with the sharpness of mine at 600mm, on my D7100. The myth of 'soft @ 600mm' has been bandied around by people who have never used one, so it is based on pure ignorance. I concur that this lens is sharp @ 600mm (even without a tripod). :-) :-)

Well Andrea....I don't always get the sharpest either. Since I just got the lens, I have been out practicing but more often than not..I am pleased. My settings on the first picture was 1/500 sec. f/7.1 (not sure where that came from.) ISO 200 Manual mode and shot in RAW. Maybe that is the sweet spot! Of course having the sunshine helps.
Thanks..Marsha

Thanks imagemeister. Actually, I had it resting on a hole in a piece of plexiglass....not really very stable but it helped a little.
