Since replacing my HDD C drive with an SSD, I've wondered how much it would heat up when the summer came along. I'm always concerned when the temperature gets over 100° F. The SSD stays cool - 80's - while the HDD D drive goes over 100. With no moving parts, it will stay cooler, but as the temp inside the case rises, so will the temp of the SSD.

I use CrystalDiscinfo to track temperature and hours of use. Free program.

PC or laptop? I bought a Targus Cooling pad for use under my laptop that gives it a slight incline and has two cooling fans that dissipate heat out the sides of the pad. It is powered by a USB connection that runs to my docking station.

I am a firm believer that the cooling pad really works. I have a 6 year old Dell gaming laptop that is 6 years old and has been on the pad for the last 5 years and still runs like new. The pad also protects lacquered table tops which is why I bought the pad in the first place. The heat from the laptop was wrinkling the finish on the table.
