I am a bit (or more than a bit) of an amateur who just got his first DSLR. I had a super-zoom point and shoot before but just got a Nikon D7100. I am loving it and hoping to take my photography up a notch. Already I am enjoying the increase capability of the equipment. I just hope my capability will catch up to it someday.

I have already gotten a lot of good information from reading the digests and can see that this is an active and supportive community. The attached image was one of the first I took with my new gear. I like how the light shows through the foliage.

A red oleander peeking over my back fence.

Awesome. How long have you been shooting? I really didn't start until my daughter was born. She is twelve now and has been my primary subject. My equipment was a limitation since she does many activities in low light with restrictions on flash. Recently got "re-inspired" to see what I can accomplish.

Since 72' but only as a hobby, that way I get to enjoy it, I
would hate it if I had to do it for a living. Now at my age I
can only do it as a hobby, do move around like I use to.

Welcome to UHH Gendarme, glad you joined us. I also shoot the Nikon D7100. It is one fine machine. I am still learning what I can do with it.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

I will probably be learning right up until I replace it, then start again!
