Back from Northern Michigan - Sleeping Bear Dunes and Great Lakes Ore Carrier (and a picture of Mom at 94)
This is a quintessential view of Lake Michigan from an overlook in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - sand dunes and an ore carrier. Compositionally, I wish I'd arrived at the overlook a few minutes earlier to catch the ore carrier further back on its track ...... as it is, I just had enough time to compose one shot and capture the vessel while it was still in view.
We celebrated Mom's 94th birthday with dinner out, then cake and ice cream later at home. She is doing VERY well. Unfortunately the elder of my two younger sisters did not fare so well. She is the UHH Photographer "Civona" and we had great plans to shoot together for a few days, but she got waylaid for 48 hours. The good news is that she recovered nicely, but we both have to shoot solo for some time to come.
I'll bet it was cold up there! It's great that your mom can still do all that stuff!

How did you know AzPicLady? It averaged about 44 degrees the whole time I was there.

Thank you very much Rena. While the weekend didn't unfold exactly as I had anticipated, it ended well. For me, that's enough. Bob
Love the image. What a beautiful lady your mom is and she looks great. Sorry to hear your plans with your sister did not work out but glad to hear she is doing better.

Thank you Andrea. As I was driving home last night and passed by Mt. Airy (after that long roller coaster ride down I-77) I thought of you and determined I should come up and meet you in person sometime soon.

Just let me know when. I would be more than happy to meet you in person. I would love to have the opportunity to go out shooting with you.

That she does Pierre. And if you look at my smiling avatar, you now know who I learned it from.

Thank you Paula. I think we all have parts of the country that just call out our names with a siren call that can't be resisted. Northern Michigan does that for me. I get it from my Mom. After all, she's lived there for the last 38 years.
Congrats to your mom for her birthday! And a nice shot of her, too.
The ore carrier on the lake is really nice, great detail. In fact, so much so that I can see the captain waving to you! ; )
The lake is Very well captured Bob! I think you got your smile from a lovely lady!
