Is anyone just using prime lenses or are most people using zooms.

I can't speak for most people. What do you use and why? Does it work for you? What's your subject? What are your shooting circumstances?

I have a whole series of primes, many are manual. But I also use zooms. It all depends upon what I am doing.

I'm still pretty new to photography and at this point, I have a fairly good range of primes only, in part because I'm shooting mostly Macro and really love the IQ of primes. I'm at a point where I want to branch out with my photography and can see that a short wide zoom and maybe a super would be extremely practical in a lot of situations.

I think quite a few people can get by and be perfectly happy with only a zoom or two but, I don't think I would ever be able to give up my primes.

So, I believe having both makes more sense, at least for me personally. As was said, it depends on what you want to do and how you want to do it.

My most used lens is my 24-105. It can shoot just about anything, from a wedding to sports to landscape! Followed by my 200 1.8, mostly for sports but also for portraits and product. That's followed by my 50 1.4 used primarily for lowlight, both indoors and at night!! Those three are followed by a variety of zooms and primes, mostly for wildlife and some sports. ;-)

Primes are too expensive for me and I like the zoom capability.

I use whatever my mood calls for. in medium format ican make do with a 35mm, a 75mm, and a 200mm and not worry about the in betweens for a day.

I use both, and when I do my photo outings, I will designate it as all lenses, prime only, manual focus only, etc-this way I keep myself "practiced" in various techniques-and it adds fun and challenges to the venture

Canon 50mm f1.4, canon 100mm F2, Canon 24mm F2.8, Canon 300mm F4 and Canon 24-105 F4 I like the primes because they are fast, small and good in low light.

Not only do I only use a prime, it's a FIXED prime...it doesn't come off of the camera! :)
