An interview with walbee,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Started when digital took off.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No training Mostly travel photos

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
Unusual subject or catching something commonplace in a unique way.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
Nikon 5200 and Sony DCS with 30 X zoom. When time permits I will switch to a long lens on the Nikon. Often get a better picture with the Sony because of some special features.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Mostly in Picasa

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
My father took great landscape slides comparable to many in Nat Geo. This was a peak Aurora year so spent more time out at night.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I am 72, but still work. I would still like to find time to take some classes because I am going to retire soon and travel more.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Post processing programs.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I would like a single lens that covers 35 or less to 300 or more. I carry two cameras that cover 18-55 and the Sony from about 25 to over 300 (30x optical and more using digital). I have take the same shot with the Sony and the Nikon at full zoom, and get about the same quality with both.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
None

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work? http://picasaweb.google.com/vantravel

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
I take the very back of the bus when I tour with groups and shoot from both sides. I get a few great shots that no one else gets and delete most of them. Keeps me busy for the hours on the road when touring.
