After much thought, and multiple problems - I did it. I got a 5dMKIII. And now the story. Having had problems ordering from Canon online since I have a CA billing address and a MT shipping address I learned that I need to order on the phone directly with Canon sales. And so, on April 22 I called Canon, explained to the very nice agent my problems with previous orders, and after being assured that with her handling it directly there would be no problem. So I placed my order for a refurbished 5DMKIII for $2239. I got confirmation of the order and eagerly awaited the camera. After not hearing anything in a week I called Canon and was informed that the order was cancelled automatically because of address discrepancy. I again placed the order and this time I was again assured that there would be no problem and that this agent would personally handle the problem with a supervisor the next business day. Having learned not to trust Canon I called this past Monday and was again told that the order was automatically cancelled. At this point I became not so nice. I demanded to talk to a supervisor who said she would personally take care of the problem. She placed the order and said that "By the way, the price just dropped $40 so the cost was $2199). This time it went smoothly and the camera was delivered Thursday 5/7. I am chomping at the bits to get my hands on it when I go back up to my house in MT in a couple of weeks. Until then I will just be happy I got it.

Congratulations, Mike! By all reports, the 5DMkIII is a fine camera. But what do you want to bet that UPS will also note the discrepancy and take it upon themselves to cancel the delivery?

Congratulations on your new camera.
I'm surprised that you have so much trouble. People buy gifts all the time on line that are sent to another address. You'd think they'd be used to different addresses by now.

Thanks rJay & mac. UPS not a problem. The driver knows all the people up where we are. FEDEX is terrible. Another problem is that the address does not show on any data bases even though it exists. It's strange because never any problem with Amazon or Costco. I also get some problems when I order ammo from some companies.

Congratulations on your new camera.
FWIW
I had an issue with odering on line with my debit card. Most sites would process the order just fine (Amazon and Newegg to name two) and others simply would not let the order go through due to some sort of billing address problem.
I forget the exact details but.....I had to make a trip to the bank and sit down with one of their managers to get to the bottom of the problem.
She got it fixed and.......no more problem.

Unfortunately, speaking directly to a "nice person" doesn't necessarily help. At some point, automation takes over, and you have a problem.

Every time I place an order online, there is space for my billing address and another for my mailing address. I wonder why Canon had a problem with that.

You just refreshed my memory Jerry.
The problem may very well be that what you believe to be the billing address and what the "system" has as the billing address are two different things.
Some on line retailers are very picky about it and some are not.
I was using a debit card to place orders, usually successfully. Some retailers though, would reject my order no matter how I entered my billing address (abbreviations vs no abbreviations, punctuation marks etc).
Turned out that the billing address was an OLD OLD address and since it was a debit card I was never actually getting a bill so....I didn't know.
A trip to the bank got it sorted out and I haven't had a problem since.

Congratulations, you'll cherish this body and enjoy. I too had a similar problem with placing an order for a laptop from Lenovo, ordering from one state where I am and having shipped to another and the order kept getting cancelled. Finally got around the problem by using Amazon payments, where both my addresses were validated by prior purchases. Go figure .....

I had a smaller GAS attack myself last week. Stopped in a local Target store and walked out with a a Nikon 1j4 with the kit lens and 30-100 telephoto lens for only $350. Could not resist

Years from now, you'll look back on what happened and it'll just be part of the story of when you bought a sweet camera and saved $40. Enjoy! I think I'll head over to the Canon refurb site.

Did you have to pay CA sales tax?

Saw a movie years ago called "grey fox" I loved it but I've never been able to find it to rent or buy again.
