I own a small Dental Laboratory and have been taking my photos with a P&S camera. I take them in macro mode but am not happy with the detail that I have been getting. I just bought a used Canon 20D and need to buy a macro lens and a macro ring flash. In this econmomy my pockets are not that deep. I am new to DSLR so I am trying to learn as much as I can so I felt like this forum would be a good place to start.

Don't really know that camera or much else - but I believe you can get a 50mm lens, plastic lens that is a pretty fast lens for around $100. They also sell a diopter filter that is a screw on type for the lens that may do you nicely. I'ld ask around, and or go to a camera store; not a box or electronic. Others here may well have mor and more accurate information. Good luck & please share some when ready.
