I see B&H is offering elements 13 today only for $44.95, I have dabbled with two programs one called gimp the other pisca of which I wouild not consider myself proficient with either. So myself being software illiterate would elements 13 be a poor choice or at $44.95 a good value to purchase to have for the future as I progress? I am also sure I would have to upgrade the computer as it is probably 7 years old or older. If I were to purchase this I am sure the dvd would be the way to go unless the program on the dvd has a predetermined life span. Tnx any advice
go to youtube and watch the GIMP videos. This is one powerful FREE photo editor. the sharpening is fantastic and the adjustments are great too. Save the money. There is also Gimphoto which mimics Photoshop alot.
You would really like the Guided Mode. If in a hurry Quick mode.

Tnx wy2slk I will check them out, as I said I have dabbled with gimp a little bit. But it has been a while, I have tried to dabble with pisca the most.
Probably fair to say just about every pro in the world is Photoshop literate. Its the world leader not by accident but simply because its the best and does most. Its not cheap but still they use it. No brainer my man. Elements is a slightly cut down version for the good amateur photographer. Buy it learn it and your work will improve dramatically simple as that. Best $50 you will ever spend.

If you want to expand your PP capabilities, PSE 13 at $44.95 is a good price, but add something to bring the total over $50 to get the free shipping.
Picassa will give you some insight to PSE, but the program isn't intuitive--none of the Photoshop's are, and you probably need a book on the program as there is no manual. I like "The Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundage; I'd also recommend an Adult Education course on Beginning Photoshop Elements, bit the book will get you started. Don't get "PS Elements for Dummies", it assumes you have had previous experience with PSE.; to start you will need more information on "How to" and not so much "Why".
I have a PSE 10 running on a old (maybe six years)Toshiba laptop running Vista Basic and it works just fine, if a bit slower than my newer laptop with Win7 Pro. Try the PSE 13 on your old machine, it if works, you have saved, or at least deferred, a +/- $700 expense; if your old computer is just too slow or doesn't have enough RAM, then get the new computer. BTW a stand alone, larger monitor will help!
Good Luck.
I do not see it for less than $69.
Is this sale still on? Does anyone have a link to it? I have gone to the B&H site and $69 is the best price.

I'm reasonably sure that the $44.95 price was only good through May 4th.

I received an email about the sale from B&H yesterday. I think the offer ended last night or this morning. It was a limited time one day offer for the $44.95 price with free shipping. When I saw the offer I ordered it online right away and received word this afternoon that is due to arrive via UPS tomorrow. (I did add enough to the order to get the expedited shipping). Very fast service.

Does that sale mean that 14 is due out?
If that be the case for some it may pay to wait, if there is an improvement.
I have 10 and i know 13 is much different GUI wise.

For the last 6 years, PSE has been updated in September.
its only worth it if you commit to learning it.

I just saw PSE13 at Costco also for 44.95, comes with a few Costco-only benefits, but I didn't study what they were.
If you say your computer is older do not be surprised if when after purchasing when you go to load it that there is not enough space. That is what happened to me. When I saw it on the Costco website marked down I did order it but then when going to load it on the computer it did not take it. I will just have to wait 'til someday down the road I were to possibly get something else. So if you already have something for sure do not take it off unless you know you have the original packaging with the serial numbers before trying to load the new on.
