Purchased the Nikkor 58mm f1.4g. I like the colors and rendering this lens produces. There will be a learning curve similar to learning how to shoot the Nikon 14-24mm lens.

Very nice shot. I had have my sights on the 58 1.4, but am uneasy about the price. Do I need it and the 50mm 1.4?

The 58mm has incredible bokeh more suitable for portraits than my application here. It is a difficult to compare the 50mm with the 58mm as they are designed for different applications. If you prefer tack sharp lens, you will probably not like the 58mm lens. It is designed for soft out of focus areas with a narrow depth of field. It is unlike any other lens currently manufactured by Nikon. The bokeh is very soft and pleasing.

I have read that the bokah in portraits from a 58mm 1.4 is so soft and buttery that it creates something like a 3-D effect.
