The Pocket Watch...........

This old pocket watch was made by the Elgin Watch Company in 1905, a hundred and ten years ago. The case is gold filled and the mechanical movement has 7 jewels. It will keep time within 3-5 minutes per day which in 1905 was considered pretty good. The pocket watches of this era were sensitive to hard bumps and dropping and it was considered best to have a nice watch chain and wear it in the watch pocket of most American made blue jeans. A very dear friend restored this watch and gave it to me as a gift a few years ago, a gift that I will always cherish.

This picture was taken with my Sony NEX-6 camera using a vintage Minolta MD Macro 50mm F3,5 lens at F5.6, 1/100, ISO 200, Daylight white balance, manual focus, Manual Mode. I used a black colored piece of black felt cloth for the background in producing this simple, uncluttered picture. Tejaswrangler :)

I've got one the same, had it about 40 years. At our local writers club Neville, a friend, had written a long story based on the Lusitania sinking and a wealthy American's body was washed ashore the watch was removed and after a hundred years reunited wit the family of the drowned man. neville had done some research at the local watch doctor who said a wealthy man would have had an Elgin. And so in the story the watch was named as an Elgin. The next momnth I took mine along to show NEville he was most impressed. I have never tested it for "rate" that will be a little project for the near future. As wiill be taking it's portrait, and one of the insides too. Best wishes, Andrew.
