OK folks, can somebody explain this to me. My wife and I had this large plastic container we used to keep dry dog food in. When our dog decided she did not want dry food any more, we decided to repurpose the container. Problem was, after washing it four or five times in hot soapy water an odor remained. An odor that my wife described as smelling like a "HORSES BUTT". Now comes the weird part. She asked me if I would use my air compressor to blow air into the container. I looked at her as if she was crazy. She then continued to tell me that she once gave a large pickle jar to her boss that he wanted to store crackers in. She said she washed it several times but the pickle odor remained. After giving the jar to her boss he also washed that jar several times and couldn't get the pickle odor out. She then went on to tell me that for some unknown reason he decided to blow air into the jar from his air compressor and the odor disappeared. So just to pacify her I went into the garage and blew air from my compressor into the container for about 30 seconds. I was shocked to find that the container no longer had the "HORSES BUTT" odor. In fact it had no odor at all. Could someone please explain to me how this is possible?

Not answer to your question but two things get smalls out. Put newspaper in it for a period of time or try washing it out with vinegar.

Bobbee - White vinegar is better than malt, in my opinion. Use it for cleaning loads of things, inc. car windscreens.

We keep White, Apple and Wine Vinegar in my house. The White is for the cabbage soup, the apple is for Pulled pork and the wine is for my German Spec Salad. I should have said White, Thanks!!! We don't use Malt, I see that on tables at restaurants for Fries. Never got into that. Actually being very diabetic, I shy away from anything potato, my love is GOOD coleslaw. Then we are back at vinegar again, aren't we??????

I will ask my wife to write it down, my father taught her before he left for the kitchen in the sky. She made it for him one day after the education and he said very good. Our whole family loves it. It is usually a winter soup. She made it 3 days ago. YUM!!!!!!!!!!

If you wash out a container with soapy water, rinse, and then fill with fresh water and add 1 tsp. of Vanilla (real Vanilla) and let it set for a day or two, the odor will be gone. I do this for plastic milk bottles that I want to use to store water for when we lose power.
