After some due diligence I finally found that despite Adobe's valiant efforts to hide it one can purchase an upgrade to Lightroom 6 from 5 for $79. I found out how from the "Lightroom Queen". I won't post a link now because that seems to cause my posts to be sent to links...which isn't appropriate for this one.

The Lightroom Queen also listed the upgrades that come with 6. They are substantial. They made me decide I want it.

But since I already own Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 I've been avoiding going to the CC subscription. I'm fundamentally allergic to subscriptions of any kind.

However, with $79 for the upgrade vs. $120 for year subscription they are finally getting to me.

I open to encouragement on both sides.

Like you I have an aversion to subscriptions and I would be VERY grateful if you could PM me the link. (I had a good look for the upgrade option and couldn't find it. I need to familiarise myself with this "Lightroom Queen" ).

Please ignore the above. I Googled Lightroom Queen and found out how.

To anybody that's doing the upgrade via download, have the serial number of your LR5 installation handy (mine was on a label in the hardcopy box). You'll need it to complete the LR6 installation.

In the UK, at the time of writing this (May 2nd, 2015) the upgrade is just short of £60 (£50 + VAT).

I've been happy with my upgraded LR. But how can I get rid of that annoying splash screen every time I open the program? I didn't have it in the old version.

So what might make some of you want to upgrade?

And if you upgraded,
1. Would you go stand-alone or cloud, and
2. Why?

While I like the HDR and panorama features I have no problem doing them now with the link to Photoshop. But I do like the idea it returns a RAW file instead of a tiff. I mostly use the Panorama feature.

Perhaps most I like that you can finally use multiple music tracks with the Slideshow. I plan to use the Slideshow more and more and found the one sound track limitation annoying.

Support for touch-enabled PCs also interests me. I use one.

Also I might like the LR mobile iPad. I'm considering upgrading my ipad so I can run new apps anyway. I don't know if I can get the Android mobile with my Lightroom 5.7 or need to go to 6 or to Cloud to get it...but my Android is kinda small anyway.

Select "Edit>Preferences" and select the General tab. Almost at the top, just under "Language" is the option "Settings: [] Show splash screen during startup". Make sure that the box is unchecked.

Go to preferences>general and turn off the splash screen or use your own.

Lacking input on my question I've decided to do the upgrade at least one more time before going subscription. Its paid for in eight months and my a Photoshop is good yet.

Good decision. I don't think I've missed out on anything in CC by keeping my hard copy non-subscription version of LR. And the new LR6 has some very worthwhile features, especially the RAW HDR capability.

The upgrade price is quite reasonable.

Ok, LR6 is downloading.

I noticed they say the Mobile version isn't available with the permanent license.

But there is a free version in the Apple store. I need to upgrade my iPad for it to work, though. I plan to do that anyway as most apps don't work on my original iPad.

Does anyone understand what Adobe is saying?

Once I got by the ordering process the download, installation, and start-up, including a new catalog, was trouble free.

The touch interface seems to work seamlessly. I had read you need to click something but I didn't find it: it just works.

The pano process works OK. But it generates HUGE files (like Photoshop). And I had trouble cloning out the little white spot in the upper left. Probably I just didn't wait long enough on it.

As I noted my main interest is the improved slide show music capability. Haven't got to that yet.

Today was a banner day in that I purchased a new ipad. It downloaded the free Lightroom App no problem so I don't get what Adobe was saying about it not working. Maybe it is the auto synch that doesn't work. I don't need that anyway.

Lightroom pano (the RAW file is 500MB!)

Beautiful pano. How many shots did you merge?

4 or 5. These were handheld so not as good as could be.

I need to leave off the CP in the future. I also need to do more with camera in portrait mode. Still learning!
