Lightroom adjustments - Too much?

Both of these images have been highly edited in LR5.

The goal in both cases was to minimize and blur the background while adjusting sharpness, etc. to pull the birds out of the image.

From all I have read and seen this a fine line where it is easy to do too little or cross over to the dark side and do too much.

I use a Canon T3i and the lens is a Canon EF-S 55 - 250 mm f/4.5 - 5.6 IS STM telephoto. Not the best of equipment but what I can afford at the moment.

So I would appreciate your thoughts. Did I do too little, too much (the Dark Side) or pretty much OK. I'm not thin skinned and would really appreciate honest opinions and suggestions.

1st is well done, coloration is very natural though few stop there. The 2d I think could use a touch more exposure.

As far as your equipment goes I have seen some of the finest wildlife/bird photos from that lens. In a crop sensor camera like the Rebels it is effectively a 85-375mm lens. Has good image quality. Not a 'kit' lens by any means...and affordable.

I agree, 1 looks good but not overdone. And again number 2 need more exposure ( more light).

Looks good. If you hadn't said that you did anything I'd have never known.

Lovely compositions; you are a natural!

Editing - I agree with the other folks, both that a bit more brightness on the cardinal might be in order, and also that if you hadn't asked, I probably wouldn't have noticed one way or the other :)

Well, I guess I'll be differing from the majority, but I think your cardinal shot is fantastic, Silvermeteor; you could frame it!
