Hey gang, where do you go to get an accurate shutter count and do you need a special memory chip?

Thanks!

All you need to do is take a picture, look at the EXIF data - Nikon puts the shutter count in every image since 2008 (I believe)

I have used the Nikon shutter count site in the past but, It's not working with my D7100. Worked fine with my D90. That's why I asked about the memory chip..

Nikon DSLR's are great for giving the shutter count. Here are lots of links. Try them and pick the one you like. I use Irfanview.

Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

Pretty neat. I tried and it also works with PS Elements.

Jerry, thanks for taking the time to post all of those sites, but none of them will work for me. I used my shutter count before with great results. That was with my D90. Could it be the fact that I'm using my IPad?

You need to LOOK at the EXIF data as it comes from the camera, it should have the shutter count there... if it does not after going thru your IPAD then no shutter count site will ever detect it.

Nothing to with the memory chip - everything to do with looking at the EXIF data - are you running the image thru something that removes the shutter count data that the D7100 puts in the image? I shoot with a D7100, every single image has a proper shutter count in the EXIF data.

I don't know if it's running something to block shutter counts, I just bought the 7100.

Simple solution - take a picture, download the picture to your computer, look at the EXIF data - look down the data for IMAGE NUMBER or SHUTTER COUNT - that will be the shutter count for that picture.

If you do not know how to look at EXIF data - you need a program - many available for free.

Good tool for EXIF data - EXIFTOOL & PYEXIFTOOLGUI - both free for Mac & Windows.

THANKS GANG,
I appreciate all the help. The mystery still goes on.. So far I tried Photpshop 6, Elements 10, and all the rest mentioned. This was on the IPad and the PC. Finally, got the info that I wanted by uploading the pic to Picassa.
Thanks for all the replies.
