Each year, for as long as I have been visiting our local Marsh, a Goose has been using an Osprey nest to lay her eggs and begin her family. This year I was fortunate too be present when the goslings left the nest. This particular nest is approximately thirty feet off the ground so the drop to the ground by the young goslings is quit a challenge.

What a great post. How lucky were you to be there at the perfect time. Brave little ones, aren't they? Gary

Thanks, my wife and I watch for nearly an hour before the parents both left the nest and then called to the goslings...

My Wife and I would drive by about every other day hoping to catch them leaving the nest. Yes we were very lucky to catch them in the process of leaving the nest....

I sure hope they all made it safely to the ground with not a lot of pain! I guess mom knows best

Unfortunately one did not make it. I counted six that took the plunge and when they made it to the water there were only five. I have no idea what happened to the sixth one. My Wife thought she saw one hit a limb and bounce off, I was busy taking pictures of them so I did not notice.

Yes, it' sad. I can not for the life of me know why they wish to nest so high off of the ground. To protect the eggs, maybe.
