I spotted these lupine today after a rain shower. Which do you prefer, monochrome or color? All comments and critiques are appreciated.

I love them both, jm. I think it's purely a personal preference thing. It's very effective the way you used the rule of thirds to place the large foliage with all the water drops. It has great depth. The lighting is soft and lovely, and your focus/DOF are perfect. Excellent work.

Focus is fine composition - well what can ya do with a bunch of leaves. Colour looks natural.
Choice of BW or colour? The photo lacks any impact in either so its difficult to choose. Its like a one look picture so Im not sure colour or not makes a difference.
Just one mans opinion but it needs something to make it burst into song.

I took the liberty of downloading and giving your image a Photoshop makeover. It can actually play a reasonable tune. A channels adjustment combined with a blend mode then Nik filters followed by the addition of some some Ambient light and it sings a pleasant song. Not a number one smash hit but OK.
I will delete it from my PC unless you want it emailed to you.

I kind of think we all would like to see what you did with it--if that is OK with the owner

Billy, there is an exception to that rule .. one exception. The OP may post a colour and a b&w of the exact same image. JM is working within the rules.

hi, jms,
To my eye the colored version is a much stronger image because the water droplets on the proximate leaf don.t just assume a lighter green color, they are refractively and reflectively independent of the leaf in the creases of which they rest.

In the monochrome, a nice study in values of gray, the droplets are simply the lightest gray value of the other gray values that play throughout the image.

As soon as I figure out how to take Billyspad's version and upload it I will. I guess the real question is "Where should I post it?" I'm not sure this would be the correct forum to do so since I'm not asking for a critique. Maybe Nightski can give me some clarification.

Dave, you make a very strong point for the color version. Thank you for time and insight. I retrospect, the color one seems like the obvious choice.
