I just received this lens it's a factory refurbished I remember when Tamron was not the best lens but now things have changed this is really a very nice lens they have come a long ways I put it on my D300 and it makes for a very nice setup and I saved a lot of money.

I also would like to know how you post on here and put in green new topic before the post?

Not quite sure what you mean by that.

The green "(new topic)" appears before any post you have not opened. The green "(new posts)" appears before any post which has had an item added since the last time you opened it.

The only way to see the "(new topic)" one is to post it and then log out (or login as a different user).

Thanks. So this is on the Main Discussions Page. I always wondered what made a topic "new."

Hello Roger Sr.! I also have the same lens and love it! I wanted something that has a decent zoom, since I like to take wildlife photos. I just ordered a 1.4x tele-converter to use with this lens. I've gotten really good results in using this lens. I did quite a bit of research when looking for a good zoom lens and decided on this one. It was a bit pricey, but had a $150 rebate, making my total cost for the lens around $429. How long have you had your lens? I shoot with a Canon 60D.

I hope it is o.k. for me to jump in here. :-)
I too have been doing a bunch of research on this lens and am wanting to buy it. I need the IS/VC feature. I have the Tamron 28-300 without IS/VC and like the lens but would be much happier with that feature. I am having trouble carrying my heavy tripod all the time (getting old is not for the faint of heart ;-)
Could you and/or a few other users of this lens submit a picture showing the sharpness at full zoom.
Also how the heck did you get $150 rebate! That got my attention! LOL

I also have a question about using the tele-converter. I have a 2x that I never used yet (have a 150-500 Tamron with IS) but would like to use it... I will start another "new topic" about that so we are not jumping back and forth... thanks for reminding me of it ! :-)

Greetings there Clicker2014! Of course, feel free to "jump" on in here!! I'll try to answer a few of your questions here: 1) I bought my Tamron 18-20mm lens [VC] from Adorama, who had the $150 rebate offer at the time. They were also selling the same Tamron 18-270mm lens with Piezo motor, but that lens only had a $50 rebate offer. Both the Tamron lenses had the same "list" price. I got the 1.4x tele-converter specifically for use with this lens. Even though it extends to 270mm, with the tele-converter on, it gives a total of 378mm. I ordered it to use for shooting wildlife animal shots. I used it extensively that day when I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Safari Park in March.

I inquired about the other 2.4x tele-converter that they were selling, but the sales guy said that it would likely cause vignetting on the photo, so I opted for the 1.4x tele-converter. Okay, I found some images for you to see. Each one has the image data. All the animal shots were handheld & the flower shot taken with a tripod. Please keep in mind that all the images haven't been touched up, except for one [IMG_5221] where I've applied a warming filter in my PSE 9. IMG_5069 & 5102 were taken b/4 12 noon and IMG_5221 & 5278 were taken slightly after 12 noon.

Hey Clicker2014 ~ Glad the info was helpful for you! Thanks for the comments on the images. Anytime I'm thinking of adding a new gadget to my photo equipment inventory, I always do a lot of research online utilizing a variety of websites. I stumbled across one by accident called "CowboyStudio.com" ~ they have some really nice things at reasonable prices. When I get ready to purchase my lighting equipment, I'll be buying from them. I've also bought items from Adorama in the past; they seem to be one of the more reasonably priced companies that I've researched. Check out the amazon.com website too.

Hi, Nice shots shutterbug. I have this lens on my 7D and use it as my walk-around lens. It is a bit heavy but easier to use than my white Canons. I haven't tried the extenders but I have both of Canon's so I will give them a try. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

Hi Mike! Thanks for the comments on my images - I love taking wildlife shots. I have the Canon 60D that I've been using more frequently which has the Tamron 18-270mm lens on it, along with the 1.4 extender. I had to specify a "Canon" mount when I ordered both the Tamron lens and the extender. I ordered both the Tamron lens and the extender from Adorama. I've been a 'repeat' customer, so my sales guy takes good care of me! :)
