Shift in GAS

Ever have G.A.S that starts out as one type, but expands to become something else? I have been pining over the Sigma 50mm ART lens for my 7DM2 for some time now, but recently I've started shifting my GAS from the Sigma 50mm to the new Canon 100-400 L IS II. The later being much more expensive it would mean I would 1) have to forgo the Sigma and 2) sell my 300mm L Prime, plus save my pennies for a while longer.
Have you ever had GAS for one thing, that shifts to something else? I think with the capabilities of the 7DMII, the 100-400 would ultimately be the more useful. I'd love to get that Sigma 50, but the more I read about the new Canon, the more drawn to it I become.

Yes!

You know that rumbling sound... That's the GAS seeking the most expensive desired item possible. When it locks on it erupts (with unfortunate consequences)

Then it's quiet for a time.

On the upside, you will have a killer lens. Keep this in mind when the larger hole in your wallet tries to disrupt you karma. You must not let it! :) What you must do, however, is let us see the upgrade from the 50 when it pops in.

Buy them all. Life is too short to waffle over camera gear.

I would agree but I'm fresh out of rich uncles, wining lottery tickets, AND pre-loaded MasterCards with over 5 figures.

Let me know when you succumb to the urge and I'll discuss taking that 300mm L lens off your hands.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Lens - $949
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens - $2199

I'm not seeing 5 figures here. I'm just seeing confusion.

G.A.S. is insidious and can strike at any time! Last week I stopped into a local dealer to get a spare chain for one of my saws. Walked out with the chain and yet another chain saw! I really dread the day I walk into B&H!
BTW, the 7DII and 100-400 L II is a sweet combo. Still experimenting with mine but very pleased so far.

Watch, not long after you buy the Canon 100-400mm lens G.A.S. will strike again and you'll be impelled to buy the Sigma 50mm also.

I have the Sigma 50mm 1.4 EX DG HSM lens and love it. It is 1/2 the price of the ART lens. I compared the two lens in the store for 1/2 an hour and personally I could not see any reason to spend another $500 for the ART. The EX DG HSM gives me nice clear, sharp and colorful images on my Nikon D300. Maybe your 7DMII is capable of more and would justify the extra cost. Unless you are an outdoor animal, bird or candid photographer, you're going to get more use from a 50mm lens than a 100-400mm, IMHO.

Enjoy whatever you do decide to buy!
