I now have Lightroom CC on my Laptop and on my Desktop. I have sync'd the catalog on my desktop to the cloud. I would like the catalog on my desktop and laptop be the same. Since I travel a lot I have many files on the laptop that are not on the desktop. Looking for the best workflow way to bring both desktop and laptop into "sync". Then I could use the cloud catalog with both. Thanks.

Computer guy here. I personally would use an external hard drive and keep your catalog and files on there and move it between machines. I just got LR 6 CC myself and my understanding is it only syncs collections, not your whole catalog. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong!

I would think syncing the catalog over the cloud could add some slowness and lots of potential problems and losses as well.

Your catalog would need to be in a location that is easily accessed by both computers. This could be an external drive as mentioned, a transporter, a NAS, or a couple other things. But the fastest way is to carry your catalog on a pocket drive. A 2.5 USB 3, the problem with this is you are limited in size of course. Be careful with this approach. Make sure this drive is not your only copy. Traveling with a drive is inherently dangerous. It leaves it open to damage, theft ect.
In my workflow, I would never edit while traveling with a laptop. I do have a travel catalog that I can dump files to. If the hotel has a decent internet connection, those files are copied to my off-site backup over night. Since I now have two other copies of my data, I can format the card and re-use.

Did you actually sync it using LR or did you simply upload it to the cloud. I don't think LR will actually allow syncing to a cloud. In other words, when you open LR, it will only look for the library on your local machine. This being the case, just upload your laptop to the cloud and then when you get home, copy the same laptop library to your home PC. But make sure you copy the same image files from the laptop to the same folders on your home PC. Since your laptop has the latest work, that's how I'd do it.

I believe you do get some Adobe storage with your subscription, but not sure here as I've never used it. Either way working with image files in the cloud will be very slow since most hotels throttle their bandwidth to guests. It may be acceptable to work with your catalog in the cloud, but that means you still have to carry image files. If thats the case why not carry everything on a portable drive. I really would not try to copy stuff back and fourth between more than one computer or drive. It's too manual labor intensive process, and is not needed.

Sync'd it with what? LR Mobile will allow you to identify Collections that you can work on with your mobile device (tablet, phone, notebook) while away from your desktop.

Adobe gives you 20 GB storage with the cc subscription. So that is limited. A portable drive sounds like the best solution, just make sure it's backed up.
I carry an external hard drive with me for my laptop and I have back up through Cloud storage (not LR). I usually don't want everything on both computers, however whatever I need I can access quickly and load in to Lightroom.
I also agree that LR syncs collections not the whole catalog or your actual photos.

I can see this is a can of worms. I will have to study this carefully before answering any questions or making any decisions. I can say that I downloaded LR CC to my laptop two days ago. It asked if I wanted to sync my Catalog to the cloud. I said yes. About one hour later I downloaded LR CC to my Desktop. It asked If I wanted to sync my Catalog to the Cloud. I said yes. It said I already had a catalog on the cloud would I like to replace it.
Note to the person who said they do not process while traveling. I take a 1 TB external hard drive as backup. I just returned from a 6 week trip overseas. I need to process while I travel.
I will work it out. Thanks.

Just remember - the Lightroom catalog is NOT your pictures - it is a database that points to your pictures, and a history of metadata and edits.
