After much deliberation and financial analysis I again succumbed to another GAS attack. The refurbished deal from Canon for the 5D MKlll for $2239 was just too good to pass up. I have been debating this for awhile since it is something I really did not need as I have a 6D with which I am very happy with. But, I gave in. As I shoot both Canon (my main platform for which I have the most lenses) and Nikon I was also considering looking for a refurbished D800 or D810 but the Canon deal was very good and at the right time. Looking forward to getting the new stable mate. Now my only question is to what to do with the 6D. I really don'the need it but I am also not the type who gets rid of anything. Great condition and very low shutter count.

Congrats Mike. You will like the 5DIII. Keep the 6D as a backup.

Oh me too... I bought a 6D the other day ... with the full intention of playing with it for the 15 days allowed and then returning it. (I like to torture the big box stores with this move).
But YIKES it was like a puppy !! I couldn't imagine taking it back there ....
So I too ... did it again
Now I have maybe tooooo many cameras???
Never!!!!
Have fun with your camera - keep your 6D !!!

I, too, recommend that you keep the 6D as a backup. It's a good camera, but you probably wouldn't get a lot of money selling it. (I could be wrong.) Since the lenses are interchangeable, you can just carry the body and a battery for it as a spare, in case your 5DMkIII gives you problems. I once had an issue with my 5DMkII that I didn't have time to solve by digging through the manual, so I put the lens on my original 5D body and finished taking the photos I wanted.

Years ago, 1968, to be exact, the (pro) yearbook photographer at my high school told me something valuable. I asked him why he had three Nikon F bodies, all identical. "They're all the same, because I don't want to think about what I'm doing with a different camera... I just want to FEEL what the camera is doing, instinctively. And actually, I have four," he said. "The fourth one is a spare. When I send one in for service, I use the oldest one until I get the serviced one back. "

At various times in my career, I've used two different cameras and two identical cameras. I greatly prefer working with two of the same cameras.

For many years, I had a Nikon and a Canon in my training studio. I used the Nikon for documentation of the Canon system. It was a bit like using a PC and a Mac, which I also had to do.

One of these days I'm going to go through my camera locker and sell everything on eBay, then buy two new identical bodies and a set of lenses that fit...
