Any of you Oylmpus m43 shooters have/had an issue with the tripod socket? I started to notice a bunch of wobble and thought I'd worn out my tripod till I noticed the bulge around the socket on the bottom of camera body. Turns out one of the mounting tabs on the socket has cracked. Olympus won't sell me the part but suggests I send it in for repair. (I'm out of warranty). I have found the part online and am thinking an add on base plate/handle might be additional insurance against another break. How it broke is a mystery, the camera has never been dropped or abused though it is possible a quick release plate with a longer screw than the socket was installed at some point. Any thoughts or experiences before I proceed are appreciated.

Depends what Olympus camera you have.
When I had the EM5 I always just used the top part of the battery grip. It's not needed on the EM1
They're cheap enough so no harm done......but I use my Oly cameras extensively on a tripod and have never had an issue. I use a Rollei ball head which only has two knobs - one for locking in the base plate and the other for 360 degree movement - great in the dark when there's not an abundance of knobs to adjust as with many other ballheads.
I have an EM1 with a Manfrotto tripod and head. No issues, but my camera is only about 6 months old.
