is there a way to sharpen it? I have elements 9
Yes, make sure you do this on a duplicate copy of your picture. Keep your original copy untouched.
On your Elements 9:
1. For an easy fix:
Go to Enhance -> Auto Sharpen.
--- OR ---
2. For prefer method fix:
Go to Enhance tap -> Adjust Sharpness ->
- Youll get a new interactive window.
- Click on Remove tap and select Lens Blur
- Make sure the Radius taps is 1.0 pixel.
- Now all have to do is adjust the slider on the bottom of Amount tap & Check Preview button to see the effect that you want.
* Keep in mind that the picture may also become much grainier in the process.
Have fun. ;)
Both pictures show well intention. The Spanky shot needed simplicity of back ground and more attention to the idea. You need to do this again and since you have access to these children never be afraid to repete or pose shots. The little girl shot also lacks the personality of the little girl to the full ability of her capacity. she,s a cutie pie and has a story you need to tell about her in photos. If you love photographing children and it shows but you got to do deeper int o your sujects world.
This shot shows great attention to subject but watch the little distractor in the corner of frame in this well executed shot. This guy comes across as man of interest and concern.
NikonDaddy,
My neice I have shot a few times she's beautiful but I have exposure problems with her outside, she's very fair skinned. Most people say the photos are angelic. What they are is overexposed. Indoors I do well with her. The little boy I don't know, he was at a 1st birthday party, but he had such a look I couldn't resist him, I can't say I will see him again. I will work on the backgrounds. Thank you for the input. My husband is an unwilling subject and we were outside in a shaded area. It was a portuguese event I will fix the background, I need to work on my backgrounds in general which would mean my aperture , depth of field. I'm on here to get better and appreciate the advice Tami

Thank you for the step by step directions. I went to school to learn photoshop but once a week for a few weeks was not enough for everything application to be covered and stay in my memory. Can I ask one more favor? I recently shot a mixed race couple and I need to add light to his face I know it's possible but I have no idea how or even where I would start. I do remember it can be selective in the form of a highlight or to simulate the direction from where to light would have come from. I would be grateful for the help you were very explicit with your directions and your working knowledge of photoshop. Thank you Tami
Don't let the boy's mother dress him (yuck to the hat color), and never let the little girl lose that twinkle in her eye... that's all the cc ya need ;>)
use a flash, the hubby pic is the best

Elements 9.0, and a little touch of Correct Portrait 2.0 plugin. You can't sharpen this image too far, for some reason it gets sort of grainy.
