A new addition to the strip is High Roller, the world's highest observation wheel at 550 feet. Prices run $25 plus a $2 admin fee (not sure why they list it like that) or $27 during the day, and $37 at night. Each pod holds up to 30 people or so. That would be way crowded. The ride takes about 30 minutes for one revolution.
Ironically, they had huge mazes set up just past the ticket areas just like Disneyland. Fortunately there were no lines when I went, in fact there was only 3 of us in the pod we were on and we walked straight through the complete maze area.
Here's a few shots (six posted) that I took. The glare off the glass was very bad so maybe would think about doing it at night or first thing in the morning.

Very neat photos.
The price of admission seems a little steep but compared to how people invest dollars in that town via gambling at least you got something in return. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Dave. I hear you, things are expensive and we don't even really gamble that much. It's a fun town to go though and see the sights, eat and take pictures.

Great shots. When you consider the price and time frames for a ride on a regular ferris wheel, this really isn't that bad. Question: Is this open to the public or do you have to be staying or gambling somewhere? Same question for the 'maze'.

From what I understand they will not discriminate against anyones money and would allow the devil himself if the fare was paid.
Hi Dee Dee, thank you. Yes it's open to anyone who wants to pay up the $27 during the day and $37 during the night. It was pretty fun actually.
The point on the maze that I must not have made too well was that someone (the designers I guess) was anticipating a whole bunch of people to be riding on this thing which was simply not the case. If the lines were as long as the maze that was in place I would certainly pass.

Hi Dave, yes, you are correct. The wheel is open to anyone.

read a article in the vegas paper that the number of people they need to ride is nowhere near what they need to make money and the whole Linq area is not drawing the crowds and a few places have closed already. the High Roller may not last too long, and they are building a big ferris wheel across from Mandalay Bay also. Think there starting to overbuild at this time
I was quite surprised at how few people actually rode the thing. The LinQ area was somewhat busy in the early evening. But not like on the strip itself. The wheel is massive and fun to shoot.

Actually the other ferris wheel,I heard has been cancelled. I wanted to ride the high roller but it was a month away from opening the last time I was there which was in Feb. of '14. I took a bunch of pictures of it though.

Very neat and interesting shots, Chris!
Go soon, not sure how much longer it will be open if there are no people riding the thing.

I probably won't any time soon. I had an opportunity a couple months ago and said no thanks. I'm really not a gambler so after being there 3 times in the previous 3 years, the thrill has pretty much worn off. I've seen and done most all I wanted to do. My better half did go recently and rode it. She said it was pretty busy the night she went. She had to wait in line for a while.
