Chugach Mountains Dall Sheep

These are pictures of seven to eight months old and enjoying their first winter of life. These young lambs are fun to watch as they've rarely seen a human and they are spooky and always the first to run at the first hint of something strange. While Momma is grazing or napping, the young one is forever on the lookout for danger.

Thanks for looking,

Enjoy,

Lee

Wonderful photos. Were these taken down along Turnagain Arm? I often advise visitors to AK that the area south of Anchorage along the Arm is a good place to view wildlife.

AK Dreamer,

Yes, these were taken along the Turnagain Arm. It never ceases to amaze me, the amount of wildlife available in that area. I've seen more bears in that area than anywhere else except Kodiak Island. Birds are everywhere. I saw a wolf attempt to catch a yearling sheep last summer. The sheep won. Coyote, fox, moose, ermine and whales and bore tides. This winter, earlier, a friend saw some wolverine tracks not far from the highway. You bet, that's a great area to send visitors.

Hopefully you can make it up here again, soon.

Lee,

Thanks for the reply! I'll be up for most of the summer and part of the fall. I'll be out in the Katmai area.

Bob,

I looked at your profile just now. I should have looked earlier. I see you fly and guide. Is that per chance a Widgeon in your avatar? I've never been to Katmai but then there are so many places to go in Alaska you can't possibly see it all. Going to try to make an early trip to Denali this May.

Have a good season,

Lee
