These are fantastic shots and how lucky for you to see it!! We don't see them very often here in Minnesota.

Looks like a female to me. And those are really terrific shots of a Snowy owl!

As far as seeing one... might be iffy out there! People pay several thousand dollars for a 5 day stay here in Barrow to photograph them (and other birds). But it's a sure thing to see them too.

A much less expensive trip in mid or late September, about the time the young ones leave the nest but before they migrate in October, is a great time to see several of them! Some years there are only half a dozen, other years a trip down any road out of town will turn up 50 or 60 Snowy Owls.

Spring is when the photography tours happen, but that is also when Snow Owls are nesting and very skittish. 600mm lenses, and maybe with a TC are required... :-)

I don't think it is possible to overdo the praises for those images.

I've got literally thousands of images of Snowy Owls. Every couple of weeks I visit the hallway at Ilisagvik College in Barrow where the North Slope Borough Department of Wildlife has at least a dozen or so of their best Snowy Owl pictures hanging on the walls. And I've seen more than one presentation by Denver Holt showing his best shots of Snowy Owls.

I know what a good Snowy Owl picture is! Yours are very good! As photographs they are technically as good as any. Perhaps the drama of an owl protecting a nest or chasing off an Arctic Fox is greater... but not technically better!
