A few teaser snaps

Friday I had an engagement shoot. Thought I would toss up a few teasers before I put up some more.

One thing I've learned is couples get more playful when you place them on the ground, in this case a lawn area. I think it brings out the kid in us which makes for some fun, playful snaps.

I got down on my belly to snap this one, I'm becoming somewhat of a hit the ground type of guy. When I post a few sunset shots I preferred the ones where I got down real low in the sand as it moves the horizon line down around their knees.

I thought the tiny light blue flowers blurred out in the background made the snap a bit more fun. I like the expression on their faces on this snap. This snap was to capture something candid as they interacted on their own, didn't want to overly pose, just place them in a setting that was pretty and then capture the candid moment.

Feel free to critique .........

I like these. You've got genuine emotion in the shot. I look forward to seeing more.

Love them ! I studied them hard so that I could make smart sounding photography comments, then I finally saw the shoe sole rabbit ears. Fantastic. Real is often better than our notions of how to pose people.
Post more !

Bunny nice!!

I have no problem getting down on my knees or even laying down to get the good angle. It is the getting up that is hard.

Don, just like a turtle you must roll over onto your feet before trying to get up

I think I may have used that maneuver a couple of times. Hard to tell. The loud grunting and groaning coming from somewhere is very distracting.

When you get to a certain age/shape, the sound of grunting is far less embarrassing than some other sounds you may make when getting up. Don't ask how I know

I really like these too. I noticed the foot bunny ears, but in my thinking, when I try to think like a client and not like a nit picky photographer type, I think they will love these. I think having her feet up makes the whole shot more playful. Could you have done a different angle? Sure, but you may have missed the expression. And I CAN tell you that expression sells. If they were my photos (besides being thrilled that I was young again, and had hair, and a beautiful young woman beside me :-) ) I would probably go with the second one. I'm just captivated by their expressions in that one. I think I like the tighter crop too, but that's the photographer guy in me again.

I prefer #2 as well 8-)

Couples always get more playful when you stick them on the ground. Snaps are more natural and emotion sells.

It is funny you say that, because I've experienced the same thing. One thing I've never done is put a bride on the ground in her dress, and I've always wanted to.... because you just can't get certain shots any other way.

I have a prom shoot coming up, and was thinking about a similar pose, but when I discussed it with my wife, she told me in no uncertain terms that no girl is going to get on the ground in her "perfect prom dress" that she shopped for so long.

Do you ever have brides get on the ground in their gowns? Ever have an issue with grass stains or other issues?

Thank
bk

We always carry a plain blue blanket and small pillow with us for this. Actually, we have this "beach" thing with a handle that looks like a zippered pillow and has a blanket inside. Bride reactions to this run from "No way" to "Cool, lets do it". Ask once and then let it go. Don't forget to recommend to the bride and bridesmaids to bring nice "flats" for walking on grass or sand if there will be shots like this. When you get the answer of "I'll just go barefoot" you know you will have fun shooting.

Maybe Midwest girls are a little more layback or easy going. What say you Bob? I envy you, BC, with your beautiful missions and vineyards to shoot weddings at. But, you are missing something if you haven't shot a Barn wedding. It is quite the rage now and some popular venues are actually building barns to accommodate the demand. Not too great for bounce lighting but what a fun party!!

PS. that Beach Boys song just started rolling through my head but can't remember the exact lines. Oh ya..."I wish they all could be California girls". Oh well

Actually about 50% of the weddings we do are:

Ceremony under a huge oak tree, large enough to shade a wedding of 200 guest, then the reception is held in an old barn that has been 'modernized' to host such an event.

Next weeks wedding:

My oldest daughter and her husband purchased a farm that has a barn that was once "THE" barn for location weddings, still has a bea-utiful dance floor upstairs with a stage, and the downstairs has full restrooms and kitchen with another area that can be used as a dance floor, or just for dining. They are on the fence about actually making the leap. Between needing a new roof, fresh paint, and the biggie......liability insurance, it sure seems like a lot of problems to go through with drunk people coming and going late every Saturday night, loud music, and cleaning up. Even though they've tried it a couple of times, and charged a deposit, people just wrecked the place.

I know I sure wouldn't want to do it, but they are thinking that it will be "easy money" yeah, right.
