I see numerous Bald Eagles being used for avatars. Felt I should mention the fact that the US government has given some Native American tribes permission to hunt the birds. Sounds like they will be used in a religious ceremony. This after 30+ years of being on the Indangered Species List. I'm torn!!skip

Just heard on the news that the government gave Native Americans permission to hunt just 2 (don't know if "just" is an approprate term here) Bald Eagles. Similar that Inuit"s are allowed to hunt whales.
Religous freedom is a "sticky" subject that I, for one, will stay out of.

I don't care if they are no longer on the endangered list. The Bald Eagle is the symbol of our nation and our freedom. I don't feel anybody, native or not has the right to harm these beautiful birds. Next thing you know they will be almost extinct again.
Why don't they hunt pigeons? There's more than enough of those to go around.

the indians were hunting bald eagles for feathers long before we got here.the eagles were doing fine until we felt our sheep were more important,oh yes and polluted a lot of the rivers.[ legend from my ancesters], one brave went around taking the moss off the north side of the trees and putting on the south side muttering"damn white eyes killed all the buffalo".

I mentioned this to my 13 yr old son last night and his first reply was, why don't they just go ahead and let them have their own nation. But then it would be a country within a country, like in South Africa. (brainy kid)

First of all, lets talk to Native Americans about this nation, and their freedom? Second, Native Americans always use only what they need. Think about the American Buffalo (bison). There were millions of them before Europeans came. Now look at how many are left. I'm not into killing anything myself, but when you talk about this country and freedom, think about how the Native Americans got theirs taken away.

We had our on country until European white eyes lied and stole it fom us!!! They took our land, our culture, our pride and gave nothing in return but sickness, sorrow, and that damn fire water. Some presidents, the devil himself Jackson being the main culprit, wanted to wipe us completely off the face of the earth. This land was OUR land, not yours.

If we can exempt churches from offering birth control as an expression of religious freedom, then we MUST allow Indian tribes to kill bald eagles for the same reason. One religion can not be given preference over another. It's really black and white here, no gray area.
