Or, can you reshoot with the camera parallel to the piece. When I have photographed flat art works, this is what I do. I also use a backdrop. If this is not possible, you can use Photoshop's various selection tools to cut this out and place it on different background. Should be fairly easy.
Good luck!

obviously this is not the final photo. I took this with my Iphone just for the post here. What I'm asking is what tools would I use in Photoshop?Once I know that I'm sure it will be easy.

OK, I would try the Polygonal lasso tool with a feather of 0 pixels. Select and save selection as a channel. With the selection active go to Layer>Matting>Defringe. If you have a good selection a value of 1 pixel in the dialog box should work.
Make sure the selection is active and Copy/ Paste; this will place the selection on a separate layer. Fill the background with white and you have the art work on a plain background you can show the client. Should take less than three minutes.
You could also create a new document and paste it into that. PS has many options.
Good luck!

I'd make a clipping path with the pen tool. That's probably just my product imaging background showing, though... most any selection tools should do the job okay.

Good point, even though I teach PS, and vector tools, I rarely use the pen tool myself. Photographer, heal thyself!

I agree with the perpendicular shot on a good background. Jus print it square or whatever and make a matte to go with the design or square it to the frame. Will add a nice touch.

I'm with Bobbee on this one. Why not just put it on whatever color background you want, shoot it, and crop it square. Why go to the trouble of cutting it out and pasting it in front of something else?

Crop but then expand. What an inspiration your photo was for the national "pop art" contest. Cropped, turned, expanded border, celebrated assorted coloring brushes on separate layers. Ready for the festival now.

Pop Art......well sorta
