View from my bedroom deck. Not a great week for Acadia because much of the Park is still impassable because of the heavy snows this year. Most trails are snow and ice covered, I'm glad I brought hiking crampons with me.

We were there just before Thanksgiving. They closed the Park for the winter--weeks earlier than usual--after a 4" snowfall. The gates and roads were closed of course, but we could hike in wherever we wanted. Nice to have a National Park to yourself! Bar Harbor got so deserted it became creepy.

I did but it looked like a Bible story because I could walk on the water.

I like the solitude of the off season but some of the trails were difficult because the snow was soft and you sunk in a foot deep with every step. I was here before in November and would recommend it over April.

Acadia is a cool NP. Sorry to hear the late access. Nice shot, BTW

Early September is often nice weather - bugs gone, tourists gone, but half the shops in downeast Maine will be closed as the owners pack up to go to Florida. First two weeks of October may be cooler and can be rainy, but the fall foliage can be stunning. For the past few years a whole lot of cruise ships have started stopping in Bar Harbor in the summer months, so it can be helpful to check the ship schedule if you will be going in the summer - the town will be packed with tourists and some of the attractions (schooner trips, kayaking, and whale watching the most popular) will be booked.

But Acadia, like most of our NPs, is fantastic any time!

I should have found a place that rented snow shoes.

Cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing on the carriage roads is very popular. As is biking in the summer.
