Having made several photographic trips to the Galapagos Isles, here is my two cents worth.
Two bodies, 20- 30mm Zoom, 70-200mm Zoom and a 400mm.
1.4 converter Polariser filter. Medium weight tripod.
Lightweight Poncho.(It really can rain) Sturdy pair of walking boots are a must and Plastic bags for camera equipment. There are a lot of small finches and the Galapagos Owls, all of which you will need that long lens for. I lost a lot of bird pics onmy first trip without a 400mm

I am planning a photo trip to Galapagos with Natural Habitat and, based on the advice I got from them, I am taking my D750 with old 35-70 f2.8D (macro) and 70-200 f2.8 with 1.4, 1.7 and 2X TCs. I will likely bring along another body and leave it on the ship to be used in case of disaster. Polarizers for both lenses and water proof sleeve. For snorkelling a Panasonic TS5.

Steffro1, I have been to Machu Picchu and the surrounding area three times and have never seen enough wildlife to justify toting a long lens. Once I stayed at the hotel near the sanctuary and they had wonderful hummingbirds in their garden, but I could get very close to them. That being written, if you take my advice the last ivory billed woodpecker will be spotted on your trip. With that warning, I still think you would be safe leaving the tele zoom at home. Should you ever get to go on the Amazon, then you will indeed need it. However, you may be young enough not to have to worry about weight.

Machu Picchu is NOT in the Galapagos. Please refer to the OP.
I just returned from 2 weeks in the Galapagos aboard a small boat. We were very active from early AM until sunset every day. I am 67, very fit and never worried about weight. I took what I needed for the excursion based on our previous evening's briefing. Our entire group was "older". We were ALL very fit and were astounded at how "unfit" some of the much younger individuals on some of the other boats were.
