I too am an Aperture user that would like to avoid Adobe products if possible. I have bookmarked the article so I can look in to it tomorrow.

I am not sure if aperture will work with the new Photos as a plugin or extension. If it would, that would be super. Anyway, I am waiting to see how it goes.

In Apple new photos under "share" aperture is a choice. Choose that and the photo opens in aperture.

Affinity is new photo software with features like aperture and appears very easy to use. $40 for next few days. One time fee. No subscription. Mac OS only.
