Took me 3 weeks to get her still enough ...never could catch her an her young in the same frame...
Momma...
The family...
She will usually run a short ways away when you get close. I've seen them feint that they are injured, so you will notice them and not the young ones. Also get your young ones picture as soon as possible, as as soon as the young can move around the nest will be evacuated.

yeah, the mama birds do a sort of "broken wing" thing to try to lure possible predators toward themselves and away from their young ones. since they don't really have "nests" - they just lay their eggs in a depression in the ground - they have no other way to protect their young.

This little lady had to content with two eagles ,a hawk , and a coyote all summer, but she got them raised. No matter how much she fussed though her chicks always ran away opposite from each other... leaving her in the middle by herself...
