What are your opinions of this camera as a body, and as a camera system? I know the lenses are few and far between, but is what there is really good? The reviews seem quite good for a "second system".

I wouldn't touch it. No resale. Camera has been panned by the market.

I change gear so often, my first question is always, how soon can I sell it and are there buyers.

May be a great camera, but it's a no show in the marketplace.

Sorry, harsh, and perhaps not fair, but who buys a camera called Sam Sung?

It appears to be a game changer. DPR rates it 87, ahead of competing models and says its in a class all by its self. It has class leading features and lenses.

If not committed to a system it may be worth consideration. Samsung certainly is the one to watch. Can't wait for the next iteration. Could be worth switching.

Samsung is a huge electronics corporation and has the resources to compete with anyone. I don't think they will fade away and just maybe CanNikSony's worst nightmare.

I'm actually a little ticked off at Canon and Nikon at their slowness to innovate their model lineup to include better overall performance that seems to be achieved by newcomers like Samsung. 15 fps, 4K video, and great sensor measurements are wonderful for Samsung, but I agree with you in that they have zero presence in the marketplace, so what is the point? :?

I hope they DO shake up the Canon/Nikon/Sony landscape and get those guys to innovate their model lineup sooner and less "incrementally". DPReview really put the NX-1 on a pedestal, and judging by the measurements, I'm a little embarrassed for the big guys. The technology is there, and the know-how for implementing that technology is there as well. Samsung did it in one fell swoop! Even though there's no market presence for Samsung, they proved that they can produce an industry leader in just one effort. I hope they push everyone forward, faster. :-o

DPReview likes it. They gave it a score of 87%. As for the resale value, that might be a concern, depending on your plans.

Samsung has more market presence than the Canon and Nikon combined... just not in DSLRs.

Besides who chooses a camera based on market presence. You can't put MP in your raw converter.

Statistic indicate that the average camera buyer has one camera and lens. Or as currently trending a smart phone and Samsung is at least #2 if not #1 in that market.

Look at your history on keeping equipment and then make a judgement based on how much you hope to get back if you constantly change equipment. That's my ONLY point. I've heard the good things about the camera.

However, in my type of gear acquisition cycle and the relatively high price of this camera, I could see losing a lot of money. Samsung is not a "household" word in the DSLR photography world in spite of making some serious product.

My dealbreaker attitude is based on resale. If Samsung starts to be as popular in the market as most of the other mfrs, I might look at one.

On the other hand, Samsung may be overpriced, in conjunction with lack of name recognition, and they may "gut punch" early buyers with a price drop to buy market share. If this happens, early adopters will get a bad taste in their mouths, and product loyalty will drop also.

Other mfrs have done this. Fujifilm (which at least has name recognition) did this with the X series camera's. Came out high, then a few months later substantially dropped price.

So, my only point was, The Samsung NX-1 may very well be difficult to sell at a good recovery price.

Otherwise, it looks mildly interesting. It will be interesting to watch the second hand market to see if prices hold up well.
