I pay a heavy price to attract these feathered friends. Yesterday, a few were actually kind enough to briefly pose for me. (Are they actually friends if you have to pay for their company. Oh, it just came to me -- there is another word for that!)

Super shots of your moochers, Sherry, and I hope Mr RBG there is indeed a scout. If others show up, I'm counting on you to shoo a couple my way. :-D Looking for Blue Grosbeaks too.

Moochers! Yeah, that's the word I was thinking.

Thank you for the compliment, Donna. I saw two RBGs at the feeders when I first got up this morning. None since, nor much of anything else, either. Its pouring again. About 8" in this area yesterday. My entire yard is a lake - actually saw a squirrel swim part of the distance as he moved between trees! Have you had enough yet?

Thanks, Angela!
No Grandma duty today? Or is it Zach's naptime? If I were you, I'd be napping with him!

Great shots, Sherry! I saw some red winged blackbirds, too, but didn't get a photo of them...yet!

Thanks, Sue. I appreciate your taking the time to look and comment.
"The Returned" is a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. They do not summer or winter here, but only migrate through. Last year I had a dozen or so visit and they stayed much longer than normal, I suppose because of the extended cold in their summer range. I've only seen 2 so far this year and am really happy to have them back. Pennsylvania is the southern part of their summer range, so you may get to see these beauties all summer long!

I'd had enough when the first inch fell, Sherry. I think we've had close to 7" in this part of town and more yesterday and today. I hope you didn't get more today to add to your 8". Sounds like there could be some serious flooding with more predicted. I need a rain gauge so I can keep a check and fret. :-D

The new moat where I had been preparing a flower bed filled Sunday but had all soaked into the ground by this morning. I was out in the torrential all day today and when I returned home this evening, the moat was filled again. I fear it will be way past planting season before that ground is dry enough to work.
I think we could water ski in the front yard.

And you could put gators in the moat. Seriously, I hope you're not in an area that floods.

No worries. Hurricane Danny dropped 33" in 1 day in our area; it was standing deep in the yard but no threat to the house.
I have a bunch of resident lizards - can I pretend they are gators?
