I love to happen up on one of those sleeping, as it will usually allow a close approach. Beautiful shots of this one, Scott. Great color and detail.

Here was another Male Carpenter Bee that I spotted yesterday. Looks as though it's right eye was scraped at one point. Wonder how this affects it's vision... Thankfully these Male Bees possess no stinger...

No clue really, but would hazard a guess that a compound eye would still function.
