This is shot with my Celestron C8 on the AVX GEM mount
ISO 400 1 second exposure. This is where it gets interesting.
Canon Mark II and 2" 2X Barlow between scope and diagonal for a 3X and an additional 2X Barlow between the diagonal and the camera mount for a total of 5X. 10150mm total.
This shot is single and uncropped.
Playing and playing.

I have noticed your use of barlows on a few of your shots, have you ever tried using teleconverters, I have only just dabbled in planetary, but found I preferred my Kenko 2x and 1.7 stacked together.

Your image of Saturn is great and you are right on the cusp of defining Cassini's division. I have been on the lookout for a 130-150mm f/9-f/11 refractor or maybe even a Mak-Cas. Still doing a bit of research to see if it would be worth looking at a triplet or doublet. I would think the image quality would not increase by too much, considering such a high aperture I doubt the chromatic aberration, would be so bad as to be unfixable in PP with the lower cost doublet. Especially considering going from an ED doublet to an APO triplet easily quadruples the cost of the scope.

I really hadn't thought of using my tele-converter but I might do that next time out. It's only a 1.4 so the gain will be minimal. Besides most people use focal reducers to gain F value. I finally have a setup that might work with the Celestron reducer that I have. It's really nice viewing but I could not get my cameras to focus with just that in the plane. With the new focuser that I have I might be able to actually get some use from it and open up some nebular images that have escaped me so far.

I have been happy with the results I get with my Schmidts even though I was told not to expect much from them. Either I have been extremely fortunate in the used telescopes that I bought or the Schmidts have been getting an undeserved bad rap. I prefer to think I am not that lucky and that the scopes are better than given credit for.
My 11" is older than my 8" and lacks the new coatings but the 8" has the coatings and is a very good consistent performer.
Just my 2 cents worth.
;)

The only downside to my cat is the original lx200 mount. It has a few major issues, but then again you cant complain about inheriting faulty equipment. Since my gripes would fall on deaf ears, literally.

That is really fabulous for an 8" scope Jim. 10,150mm

and if I had added the 1.4 extension I probably wouldn't have been able to see what I was shooting.
;o)
Thank you Craig, things are coming together slowly.

Here is a shot direct from the camera with just the 3X Barlow in place. No processing except to convert from raw.

Nah.. I like the progress you have made.
You at least are starting to stack. I'm still having issues with that.

Thank you very much Jim. I just started Astro 8 months ago so I have a ways to go to catch up to you, Matthew and John.
I need to get back into multiple shots and stack again.
