My old Buick has given up the ghost ( 1985 Century, 267.000 miles) I have been wanting a little truck so I looked at the Toyota. Finding one I liked, Access cab, V6, automatic, air, cruise, 4X4. In the process of buying this cute lil Tacoma,I called my insurance company at the dealer to find out what the increase in premium would be.
I could live with the increase, I bought the truck.
When I got the actual bill it was wildly more a year than they told me on the phone.
Not thrilled I called Geico ( my daughter was happy with her policy, service and price)
Bottom line 1000 bucks less a year for identical coverage between Geico and my former insurer whose name I will not mention, but whose initials are SF.
ME HAPPY!

I've been with Geico I think over 30 years. They have ALWAYS treated me right.
When Sandy came and took our 2002 Subaru Imprezza Outback Sport with 165,000 miles, they gave us $5000. Needless to say, we bought a 2013 Imprezza.
And Bruce, be sure you get their
Mechanical Breakdown Insurance. It's a little more per year but it's like a better extended warranty.
Used to be for the life of the car but they changed it to 7 years.
It's $250 deductible per incident, but I've used way more of their money than what I paid for the MBI.
Bruce....I hope you stay happy and accident free. My son got a quote from Geico for just over $100. He was excited. Here's the problem. He had put a dent in his fender and made a claim on his insurance recently. After the deductilble they gave him $300. After learning about this "accident," Geico's quote rose to $179.00. They're bait and switch. As soon as you have an accident those premiums will skyrocket.

Yep... they say 15%, but we saved 50%. Happy campers here ;)
Will be looking at moving our home owners to Geico shortly.

Hardly bait and switch - most insurance companies raise their rates if you have a claim - its the business they are in and get away with, but having an extra grand in your pocket each year is great.
Our last insurance company did not raise their rate right away after a claim, but over the years we ended up paying over 2k per year for a pair of vehicles - switching to Geico, exact same coverage was half.
Bait & switch? Nope. Not hardly. :)
Actually you should look to switch insurance companies every 5 years or so, that way you keep getting the teaser rates like cable TV :)

Most will raise your liability 10 or 20 percent. Geico, though, was going to raise my son's quote by 80 percent for a minor fender bender (under 1k). He hadn't had any other accidents in the previous five years.

If it was under 1k, I am not sure I would even turn it in. Especially depending on deductible.
But it is a fact of life, they all do it once you file a claim.
I guess the question is, would you rather pay 100.00 a month with no claims or 200.00 a month to stay with a company that would only raise you to 250.00 per month with a claim?
I am opting for the cash in pocket up front myself.
YUP! They saved me about 600 when I switched 2 yrs ago.

I'm glad they saved you money. I had a different experience with them. I had been with American Family for years when I switched to Geico and they saved me a moderate amount of money. Two years ago I got a phone call from a State Farm agent asking if she could give me a quote. I said yes and the amount she quoted for my home and vehicles was one half of what I was currently paying! I have been with State Farm for seven years now, but I still shop every year to see if there are any better deals out there. The most expensive option for the last five years has been AARP, followed closely by Geico and Progressive. I have found some quotes that are marginally cheaper but when I consider the local personal service I get with State Farm, the difference in price is so minimal, it is not worth the trouble.
I had Cen21, had a not-at-fault accident, so the other ins. co. paid. I had also reported the accident to my ins. co. The car was totaled, but if I had to go through Cen21 the amount they would have paid me was $5,000 less than what I actually received from from Hartford. Seemed a bit strange, so I called Cen21 and was told: "We pay what you would get from a dealer for the car, not replacement value!!" So, I called Hartford (I check ins. rates about every two years anyway) and switched, and also now save about $200.00 a year!!
Gotta keep an eye on these companies!!!

This is strange. State Farm insures my house, so I went to them with my then current policy. The young lady took a quick glance at my policy and quickly handed it back and told me "You've got a very good rate there." So, they now only insure my house.

Most, if not all insurers, give discounts to insurance policies if you bundle home and car with the same company. One does not need to wait for a policy to expire to change, if it is advantageous, and you get a refund for the unused portion. It only costs the time to check into it. Might save more!

Interesting. I've been with SF for over 40-years and have great rates... I know because Geico wanted more for my vehicles than I'm paying SF. Perhaps it's my age, my driving record, my vehicles, my location - frankly I don't know. I've done other comparisons and still my SF policy is the best I can find.
Glad you've got your truck, glad you found a great insurance rate - enjoy
Just changed from Allstate to USAA. All state charged a $33 termination fee. Changing to USAA is saving about 30% a year.

I went to the USAA site wanting to get a quote. The first thing asked for was my SS#. Sorry, I don't give that out on line so I dropped the idea.
