An interview with plessner,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I feel like since high school I have always had a camera in my hands!

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I did take a class years ago from a local friend who was teaching in a town nearby when I bought my first SLR camera back in the 80s. I do all kinds , but enjoy scenery the most.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
One that just has to make you say "oh wow" could be the colors, the composition, or the subject matter

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
I have a Sony A65. For this shot I took my basket of eggs, old and precious to me, out of my hutch and put them in the bathroom where the light is good.Surrounded it with black fabric and took the shot. I added the pink and the borders in picassa to make it look more"Eastrery"

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
As of now I just use picassa, but hope to get another program soon.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
I bought a puffin pad last summer and love it for shooting out the windows of my vehicle as I drive around looking for wildlife that usually leaves if you get out of the vehicle. It sits on the window frame and you can set the camera on it.Very stable

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I have a variety of lenses, but seem to like my 18-250 for the versatility it offers

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
Just the overhead bathroom lights!

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I am a farmer and a gardener and I love to travel. Photography goes well with all of these and the beauty I find around me every day.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
In that class I took years ago the instructor said that if you want people to think you are a great photographer--only show them the good photos! A lot easier and cheaper now than in the film days!

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
A winter project was supposed to be getting a web site set up--guess it will be next year!

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
keep shooting and thanks for voting

An interview with Jeep for Larry,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I started with a Canon AE-1 back in 1979 because I liked sunset photos over Lake Michigan where I grew up. However, I pretty much stopped after our 3rd child in 1987. I starting using digital point and shoot when they came out in 1999 and then cell phones until 2013. I semi-retired and realized I just wasn't getting the photo results I wanted. I got a Nikon D5200 in Oct 2013 and have just upgraded to D750 this March.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training. I take landscapes, mostly sun rise and sun set. Also family photos etc.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
I like the photos that make you take a second look. Sort of the wow factor.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
I used my new Nikon D750 with the 24-120mm F/4 lens on a Vanguard tripod. Just on the end of the dinning table by the windows with light through the blinds.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I shoot in RAW and process in Lightroom CC. I have a typical non-person preset I created that I apply to almost all non-people photos and then manually adjust WB and exposure if needed. Sometimes I apply some localized gradient filtering or adjustment brush/spot removal but on this photo I just applied the basic processing and removed a table scratch. My preset does a little more detail sharpening, applies Lens profile corrections, a little extra clarity and vibrance.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I have been reading UHH since before I got my D5200 in 2013 and many of the members have inspired me to take more diverse photos and continue to want to improve. I was inspired by those wild eggs my wife created and after trying some different angles and lighting, I had some photos I really liked. I would have taken the photos even if there wasn't a UHH contest for Easter Eggs.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
No

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
How much better the FX IQ is, or at least in my opinion.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
I use a tripod a lot.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I like the 24-120mm F4 if I could only have one lens.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I have one speedlight.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
hmmm, not sure but I really like to read and it would probably take the place of taking photos.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
not really

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have a few photos on http://www.panoramio.com/user/8248342?show=all but none with my new D750 yet.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Keep reading and participating in UHH.
