~ 4' x 5' inlargement.
Hopefully someone out there can help me. I took a winning photo last year that a woodcarving club would like to do a full scale carving. Besides a print in the 18" x 20" size (for accurate color reproduction) they would also like a print just to get accurate measurements so this can be carved to scale. They are looking for something say (full frame) 5' x 4'. I would think this would not be on photographic paper but something with a little body to it so it would hold up to repeated handling. Any sugestions would greatly be appreciated.

thanks for info & comment about photo
Try a advertisment sign maker. They can do even bigger sizes on a cloth background from digital.
If they are good carvers, they should be able to upscale, just like fine artists. Why should you be responsible for what they 'need' to do their carving?
Just seems a bit flakey to me.
they are covering the cost, I just told them I would check into it for them. I told them it would easily be $100.00 7 they said fine. It is much easier to do something to scale with say a stuffed bird in hand. Thanks for the help I've been getting on this.
ABSOLUTELY Great shot. You were really there at the right time & had a great eye.

A sign shop that has a wide format printer should be able to make it for you.

I realize you are just trying to be a good guy here but maybe it's best to leave the carvers to however they want to go about reproducing the photo. You have gotten some good solutions here. I have done severeal projects like that myself. here is how I have gone about it. Maybe you know someone with a 17" roll printer. The epson 4800 and the canon 5000 will both do this. I've had a friend that is a graphic artist to which I supply a JPEG that is in the correct aspect ratio and she splits it into thirds in 3 separate pdf files, then I print the 3 eparate files onto what is called "plain paper" I use a thin 90gsm paper and then glue the 3 pcs together onto a lg. cardboard to form a sign. That's pretty easy if you own or know somebody with the printer and somebody to produce the pdf.
Also some of the small photo printers and maybe even regular printers have what is called a "tile mode". Certainly Kinkos/Fed Ex can do tileing. You need only produce the jpeg in the correct aspect ratio and they should be able to print it in as many 8.5x11" pieces(tiles) as it would take to produce a 5'x4' graphic. Again you just need to glue them onto something. It won't be pretty but it's only for scale of reference for the carvers.
Anyways just a couple of solutions that I have used in the past to print cheap one-offs for banners and signs.
thanks to every one for the suggestions! I have learned a few things!
