My first posting of Baseball Sport.
I went over to our local High School last night to take a photo of one of my Grandson's High School Basketball Teammates.
Who is also an outstanding baseball pitcher. He is a senior with about six games left and has signed a College Scholarship for his Education and play College Baseball.
The kid's Mom ask if I would take photo that she could make as a poster for their Senior baseball banquet.
I shot several and liked these, the close up was in the pit warming up prior to the game. I cropped his legs due to tarp, gear on the ground near him.
Nikon D-5000 - Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, ISO 400 varied the focal length, Aperture Mode, taken just prior to Sunset.
(I had to use the D-5000, my D-600 is at Nikon in New York, where they have told me they would be sending me a D-610 due to continued Sensor Mess.

One suggestion. Having a face is important. Shooting the last one from the other side would improve the photo, IMHO. Also, a good view of the batter can come at either side of the backstop (whichever side get the face best) if you can get to that point. If you get permission, you may be allowed to stand there as long as you remain protected by fence. You do not want to get hit by a stray ball! Best of luck and I hope you get your new camera very soon.

Thank You very much.
I appreciate the tips and input.
Next time I will try to get over on the other side and try some shots. I did have to shoot some thru the chain link fence on some shots. Keeping the hood up close to the fence openings did not seem to impair them.
I called Nikon today trying to get some feedback when camera would arrive. No word yet....They received the D-600 on March 31st or so.
I am limited as the evening fades with the D-5000, my experience with it is that anything above about 800 iso starts to get very noisy, even with the f2.8 70-200mm @ 135mm Focal.
I have shot a lot of Basketball and Football with some iso settings in rain, bad field lighting, etc., as high as iso 6400 with the D-600 and been able to live with the noise. I shoot in raw and crank them thru Lightroom5 and that can help a lot...Few of the photos are printed, most post on the Kids High School Facebook page, a few maybe printed for year end Senior Photos for Sports Banquet's, and a few used on the Sports Programs.
I still have lots to learn, Erv in Ohio has been a great long distance tutor to me. I appreciate your comments to help me learn and think more about the shots, composition, etc.
Again, Thanks for time and your feedback.

Oops, me bad. I meant to say a good shot of the pitcher! Right handed batters can be shot from first base. This is where continuous high is helpful. Good luck.

Nice photos. Here is a program that's free to remove noise.
www.imagenomic.comIt's great. A fellow club member turned me on to the site.
Best,
Jules

It's not free anymore, I just looked. I don't count a trial period.
