Has anyone experience with this lens? It has received may glowing reports from reviewers but I tend to believe users first and people who have a financial interest last. :-D

It's a very good lens. Unless you need the 2/3 of a stop it's lighter and smaller than the f/1.4 and just as sharp. It's a real bargain.

I carry one in my pocket when out birding when the mid-Sig I use is more than necessary. It is a nice lens, especially for the money. I think you should get one just to have. You never know when you will want a fairly low light decent lens to work in close quarters.

I have the 1.8D at half the price. Check the reviews- no need to spend more unless your camera doesn't have a focus motor. ;)

I have this lens and I love it. I use it at high school basketball and volleyball games and it is a winner. I also use it in the house when the grandchildren come over and I have never been disappointed. It is very sharp.

I have both the 50mm f/1.4G and the 50mm f/1,8G, they are both excellent lenses. A lot depends on how you plan to use it. If you are planning to shoot in extremely low light, the 50mm f/1.4G could be worth the extra expense to you. Otherwise you will find the 50mm f/1.8G produces great results for about half the price. It is actually a little lighter than the f/1.4 and I think it focuses a hair faster.

The best lens I have on my D5300 when I want to travel light with only one lens, sharp, great in darkness and prompt for any occasion. Sharper than the 1.4, and very little difference in subdue light. Enjoy it.

I have it and use it all the time on DX Nikon camera. Compact, very sharp, fast and not expensive, I wish all lenses were like that.

This lens is really good for port rates and yields excellent bokeh at lower f stops.

I use it in gyms for basketball, too, and am very pleased with it. Also have the 35mm and 85mm 1.8's as well. All great!

Yes, this is a fine lens. The price is good, the focal length is good, and it has a good, large aperture. I wouldn't be without it.

It will suck in the light!! F2.8's can't hold a candle to a 1.8 for lowlight shooting.

Again, if you have a camera with a focusing motor in it, go with the 50D. Remember, too, that the lens will give you the field of view of a 75mm lens. It will be a little too long to shoot family dinners, but that length will be good for overall shooting.
