I have seen this battery grip under some cameras, what is it for? Is it worth it?

Extends your battery life by adding a second battery. Allows you to rotate the camera for a portrait view while providing a second shutter release as well as a command dial. They do add considerable weight as you might imagine. I love mine so to me it's well worth it.
Ohh ok,, i have a d60, and the battery lasts forever...Thank u for the response
They are great if you do a lot of rotating for "portrait orientation" vertical shots. I also have large hands and it gives me more to hold on to. BTW, my experience with aftermarket battery grips is really good. You save big bucks over the camera brand grip, with seemingly no downsides. I also love mine, and think they are a very worthwhile acquisition.
I am a big guy and have had Nikon Pro bodies ever since the F4S, including the F5 and D1X, they just fit my hands better. After going to the smaller bodies in the D90, then the D7000, I had to buy the grips to get the fit and feel of the Pro bodies I could no longer afford. The extra battery power comes in VERY handy at times too!
And people are always asking if I am a Pro when they see such large bodies! LOL

On some cameras it also increases the frames rate per second rate. Arnold
The extra weight helps balance when using longer telephoto lenses.

I have one under my 40d and LOVE it. When I was using just the one battery, it wouldn't last very long. I have had my battery grip on now for well over a month and the battery still says it is fully charged. I use my camera about 3 times a week shooting Ice hockey games. It does add weight but I don't mind it and it does help the balance. It also gives me another shutter release button when shooting portrait mode. Cheers.
Wow, everybody has a different perspective,,, thank you al lso much, maybe I should try it.
