I received my D7100 a few days ago it's my first DSLR. I managed to get BBF working thanks to You tube. I would like to have the beep for in focus feature. How?

Thanks Larry

I went to custom settings—shooting display—beep---volume 3. When I toggle back to beep it shows --. Still no beep?

I have a D7000, so it may be slightly different, however when I use BBF, the focus beep does not sound when in M,A,or S mode. Try swithing toA and see if it works. Mine does. Not sure about P, I don't have my camera handy right now.

When beep in on does it show -- in the menu after volume is set? I've tried it in auto nothing.

On mine, under d1, The first screen shows volume and pitch. I select volume then use the 4 way controller to go to the right and then select the volume I want, then, press ok. Do the same for pitch. Then you can half press your shutter button to get out of the menu. The beep only sounds in A mode or no flash, mode, none of the others. The little green light in the view finder does come on when in focus, so there is the visual cue, if not the audio.

Hope this helps. As I said the 7000 and 7100 may be slightly different. Enjoy your camera

Not on mine. Did the beep work before you activated BBF?

I want to Thank you all for the help. I'm beginning to think it may be a fault with the D7100. Will keep you posted.

Larry, when you set it on 'Beep', are you pressing 'OK' in the center of the navigation ring to save it?

The "beep" can also be affected by whether you have the focus mode set for Single or Continuous focus. It will beep in Single (as well as the dot lighting up), but in continuous you'll only see the dot light up to confirm focus.

No beep is one of the draw backs in BBF. The benefits greatly out way though using this feature;

The beep scares the birds, and shows that you are an amateur. Real photographers turn it off. :)
