No memory card in my camera

This past Saturday I did a very stupid thing . I grabbed my camera, a Sony A100 DSLR , and not remembering that the day before I had removed the memory card to download some
photos and didn't insert another one at that time. This is something that I have been so careful about doing in the past.
However, I grabbed my camera and went to a function that a
group of us were doing for our church. I took lots of photos,at least I thought that I was. The viewing screen on the back of my camera showed the pictures after I took them. After about 50 or more shots I looked at the screen and all I saw was " no
card" . You can imagine how stupid I felt at that instant. Here is my question . Does a Sony A100 have any memory without
having a memory card inserted into the camera? I looked in my
owners manuel and couldn't find anything on this situation. I have a couple of point and shoot cameras that do have memory without having to use a card. Is there any way that I can recover those photos. All suggestions and comments will be appriciated.

All the cameras i had, old or new, store the images in the cameras memory if you happen to shoot without a card. to see them, i press the review button.

Usually only for a few shots only, no wheres near 50 shots, more like 3 to 10 shots, depend on the size saved.

Now may be a good time to consider a camera bag to hold and protect camera, carry spare cards, batteries, lens cleaning fluid and sheets, owners manual, etc.
Well, it could be time......
Has saved me many times!!!

My camera has a lock for no memory card. It is in the menu and I had to select it. Check and see if you have this option. Done that with a film camera SOOOOO many times.

I've got a camera bag and lots of memory cards
but not enough memory in my head to take it with me. I don't understand why my camera showed me the pictures that
I took for quite a long period of time then after at least 30 shots
the screen read"no card".

I don't know Sony's that well, but I'd guess you are, "Up the proverbial creek."

Food for thought...This is what I do...Download the pix to the computer and an external hard drive, then, put the card back in the camera and reformat. This routine will hopefully eliminate any future Faux pas!

I shoot Nikons so I cannot say for Sony, but a Nikon DSLR will not even let you shoot without a memory card inserted. My Nikon S6100 P&S will let me record up to 99 images internally without a memory card inserted, so I guess its possible. If your Sony will let you review the images then they are in an internal memory somewhere and you should be able to retrieve them.

Thanks for your feedback. I've tried everything that I can think of with no luck. I will just have to be more careful and not make that stupid mistake again. I'm just glad that I was not
getting paid by someone to take those pictures.

That is a selectable option with the D5100: "enable release lock". You can look at the image on the LCD without a card.

The thing to do is make sure it isn't inadvertently selected.

My Nikon D300s has an option to enable shooting w/o memory card(s). I used this option when I first bought my camera to test things out. It allowed shooting but did not keep image anywhere that I was aware of. Next day I bought a card.

Well...
- Read you manual if you do not know something, after all how can anyone have an answer to a question like that? It is camera specific and it is your camera at that!
- Always check that you have all you need, including a recently charged battery in your camera (and spare if you have one)
- Oh yeah make sure your memory card is there and not full (seen that too - of course the idiot did not have any spare). A spare card is always a plus anyway and since they are cheap...
- Check that your hair is above your eyes, that way you will know if your head is there and functioning (hopefully). For the baldies, buy a hat, the reflection on your head is creating too much reflection!
- Do a pre-check, like settings, as I have seen too many folks forget to do that and shoot with a previous setting that is totally wrong for the new conditions...

In short, like a good pilot have a check list and don't skip it for the sake of speed or "I know what I have to do" (until you are proved wrong an crash). Complacency is the source of all our troubles.

Thank you for all of your good advise. I have lots of memory
cards and several charged batterys for my camera. I've read my owners manual and my copy of the Magic Lantern Guide for my Sony A100 DSLR . I have searched both books and couldn't
find any mention of not having a memory card in the camera.
My problem is my memory card and charged battery went away with my hair.
