It's probably one of those coffee cup lenses :)
Or an upset newly divorced spouse!

Since it is too late to drive 120 miles and look at it tonight I will see if it is still there in the AM and drive up there.

Craigslist is full of scams and frauds. If you decide to purchase it, remember:

Always meet in a public place, such as a coffee shop, to make your transaction. Never go to their home.

Personally, I wouldn't touch it. I'm a firm believer that if it's too good to be true, there is probably a problem.

I just saw the same ad. My first thought was that it must be stolen, but they have the box and it is in one of the better off neighborhoods. maybe they missed the 1 before the 4. $1,400 would be a little low but not out of the question..... I got a D800 with 7,700 clicks on it 3 weeks ago for a great price. Checked it out carefully and got a bill of sale and talked with the seller for a while. Felt ligit so did it but if it hadn't I would not have done it.

I saw the neighborhood too. It might be they left the 1 off. I did notice though that there is only an e mail address to contact them by; and it is a gmail address to boot.

Good tip - meet on neutral turf in full view of others.

I am guessing this might be a scam to get you to go to the above mentioned web site.

Yep, a SCAM. They never had the lens for sale. They just want to get you to their auction site.

I had the same thing happen here in the New Haven area Craigslist for a ridiculously low pricesd used Nikon D700. Got the same type of an e-mail saying it was just sold and directing me to the same or similar web site where the guy claimed he bought three of them.

The flaw in his story was that the site only sold new items....not used. My guess at the time was that he got money or credits for referrals to the site and never had any cameras.
